Buddha Purnima 2020

Vaishakha Purnima is also known as Buddha Purnima. On Vaishakha Purnima, Mahatma Buddha was born and also on this auspicious day, he attained Nirvana and achieved Buddhatva. Hence, this day has special importance.

After leaving his home to attain the supreme heights of wisdom, he roamed around in forests for 7 years and during that period, he understood various aspects of life and did severe asceticism and soon after that, on the day of Vaishakha Purnima, in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, under the Bodhi Tree, he achieved Buddha Tatva and since then, this day has been known as Buddha Purnima and people following Buddhism started celebrating it as a spiritual festival.

One Basic Mantra or an important composition is linked with Buddha and it is also said to be associated with Buddhism, which is as follows:-

"Om Mani Padmay Hum"

If we understand this mantra, then the meaning is deduced as 'Om, which is a reflection of truth, is shapeless and occupies the core of everything that exists, universe and beyond, is a rare jewel (Mani) or jewellery which is the most suitable  jewellery to be worn after detaching oneself from all the jewellery of the mortal world; Padma means lotus (Kamala)which depicts the supreme condition of spiritual progress, and in the end; Hum is attached which is a protective Tantrik Mantra which means 'May we be protected! '
Now, if we try to understand it as a whole in simpler words, then the gist is 'May the jewel (Mani) of Om develop our wisdom (Gyan Kamala-Sahasrar Chakra) and during this period, may we be protected! '

Wish you all a very Happy and auspicious Buddha Purnima!
